AMERICAN GRADUATE: LOUISIANA’S FUTURE Louisiana is striving to improve graduation rates while better preparing students for the workplace and college. WYES continues its participation in the national campaign AMERICAN GRADUATE by looking into what our state is doing to help students find their pathway to a career and continued education.

AMERICAN GRADUATE: LOUISIANA’S FUTURE is part of an education reporting initiative and public media partnership with 89.9 WWNO made possible by Baptist Community Ministries.

– The high school graduation rate in the United States has reached a record high 81%.
– Louisiana’s high school graduation rate now stands at 73.5%
– America climbed from a modern low 71.7% high school graduation rate in 2001 to cross the 80% mark for the first time in 2012 (last year statistics are available.)
– If the nation continues this rate of high school graduation rate improvement, the U.S. is on pace for the Class of 2020 to hit the 90% mark.

WYES is part of American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen, a public media initiative made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help communities across America find solutions to address the dropout crisis.
