| Outreach begins when our programming ends -- increasing
the community's awareness of what WYES has to offer.
The goal of the Outreach Department
is to provide a solid link between
WYES and the public through direct
contact, educational training sessions
and anti-violence and substance abuse
activities.

Some of the activities we're involved
in include:
Ready to Learn Program:
WYES provides
literacy workshops using our children's
educational programs to encourage a
positive learning experience. These
workshops train parents, child care
providers and teachers on using public
television programs to enhance learning
and promote the healthy development
of children.
Mister Rogers Extending the
Neighborhood Workshops: In collaboration with Delgado
Community College and the Louisiana Association for the Education of Young
Children, the workshops are taught to teachers and childcare workers. Using
the MISTER ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD program and the Plan and Play Book, the activities
involve Art, Reading, Music and Math, which build on the themes presented
in the television program.
First Book Program:
WYES realizes the importance of free
reading to the development of vocabulary,
spelling and writing abilities. This
program provides free books to children
who otherwise would not have access
to their own book. WYES distributes
over 200 books a month to the community.
