The MY HEART MY HOME MARATHON is a 12-hour marathon featuring 36 area non-profit groups. The marathon will air on several cable and local networks.
The marathon will air on the area cable providers Friday, November 13, 2009 beginning at 8:00 a.m. (Check the below list for all cable schedules.)
Throughout the marathon, each non-profit selected will be given a chance, at no cost to them, to tell viewers about their group's cause and what they are doing and will be doing with your donation.
________
The idea for a "group marathon" came about when Randall Feldman, WYES President & General Manager, spoke with other local
non-profits following a WYES membership drive last spring. Like WYES, other area
non-profits had seen a decline in donations. WYES approached regional cable companies
to see if they would carry a fundraising marathon for local charities. There was immediate enthusiasm for the idea. The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) came on board to receive and distribute donations and to help pay for the production. The Greater New Orleans Foundation made its own contribution to complete production funding. And finally commercial television stations added their own broadcasts to the effort.
Randall Feldman said, “This has been a broad effort among concerned media organizations and foundations to come together to assist charities who do so much for our region. This not only raises funds for them, but perhaps more importantly, it demonstrates the challenges faced by our non-profit organizations during this time of a strong economic recession. Working together, we
can make a difference.”

All donations will be handled by the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation. Here is how your donation will be divided up:
Donations will be made as ‘collective giving’, i.e., donations will be made to the marathon
in general and then will distributed as such: 50% will be equally distributed to all non-profits; the other 50% will be divided proportionately to the size of the operating budgets of the non-profits.
