Description

GULF COAST MEMORIES looks lovingly to a time before superhighways and air-conditioned cars – when a trip to the beach was more than a vacation, it was a family adventure!

Home moves, family photographs, and personal anecdotes are skillfully woven together by producers Stephen Tyler and Kelly Ward.  The result is a portrait – both humorous and poignant – of a place as diverse as the people who call it home, either for a lifetime or just a weekend.

Appearing in the program, which is narrated by Phil Johnson, are clarinetist Pete Fountain, cartoonist Bunny Matthews, artist George Schmidt, Gulf Coast historian Murella Powell and civil rights activist Dr. Gilbert Mason.  Philip Carter, son of Pulitzer-Prize winning author Hodding Carter, reads from his father’s book, “Gulf Coast Country,” and recalls the gorgeous summer of the book’s creation.

Also interviewed are longtime Pass Christian resident Charles Gray, Gulf Coast journalist Kat Bergeron and New Orleans attorney Allain Andry, who spent many a summer on the Gulf Coast.
