The Wonderwall and Gondola are jut two of the many unforgettable features of the 1984 World’s Fair spotlighted in MORE OF NEW ORLEANS THAT WAS.  Other events highlighted in the one-hour retrospective of the city’s more recent past include the 1987 visit of Pop John Paul II; a look back at the stars who performed at the Blue Room, one of Americans premiere supper clubs; and memories of early New Orleans television, including the “Midday” show.

This program also recalls street merchants such as “Buglin’ Sam the Waffleman,” who traveled New Orleans neighborhoods with his horse-drawn wagon, as well as the “Ragman” and the “Clothes Pole Man.”

Pete Fountain, Grammy Award-winner Dr. John, former Archbishop Philip M. Hannan, Dejan’s Olympia Brass Band trumpeter Milton Batiste and restauranteur Leah Chase are among the notable New Orleanians who provide memories.

MORE OF NEW ORLEANS THAT WAS is filled with fascinating interviews, home movies, news footage and rare photos.

The documentary is narrated and produced by Peggy Scott Laborde.
